Electricity is shiny, right?
We have experienced what the news has referred to as "snowmageddon" the past few days. 10-14 inches of snow, covered in freezing rain and then some more snow on top of that and then more freezing rain.
Cars have been crashing, trees have been toppling and the power has been out for DAYS. Luckily ours was out for one night, then came back on, then went off again during the night and came back on in the morning. Whew!
Now the snow is beginning to melt and we are having a wind storm. My fingers are crossed that our power stays on through all of this. You never realize how much we rely on that shiny electricity until there is none to be had!

Life, Laughs, Lessons, Love and Shopping in 2011
Life in 2011 could be summed up like this: work, then work some more, bridal shower, work, work, bachelorette trip, work and work some more, bridal shower, work, bridal shower, destination wedding, work and work some more, bachelorette trip, work, wedding, work more and more and more, another bachelorette trip, work, another destination wedding. Sprinkled in there were various Dr appointments, and of course family time. But I believe the majority of my year was spent on weddings. And they were great, wonderful ones at that. I was very lucky to be a part of them and witness great love!
The thing that has made me laugh the most in 2011 was most definitely, without a doubt, my son. He is a cheeky little devil (and I say that in the most endearing way possible). One minute, he is full of mischief and you just want to burst with exasperation, and the next he flashes you the cutest dang smile you have ever seen and laughs his little cherubic belly laugh and all mischief is forgotten. That is until, you discover that week old fruit pouch he left under the couch...
It's not just his sneaky ways with hiding random things in the couch cushions, or leaving trails of crumbs in his wake. It's his spirit that makes me laugh every single day. He is such an industrious, curious soul. He never ceases to amaze me. I often wonder where he came from, and how it is possible that I could have been so blessed.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned this year revolves around planning. I have planned so many things for my life, and most of the time my "plan" never pans out quite like I had imagined. Sometimes things wind up being better than I had imagined, and sometimes unimaginable things happened for better, or for worse. But I take the bad in stride and realize it is all for a reason. I have learned I need to be more flexible, and not always have a plan for every little 'this and that' that comes along.
Love. I have witnessed so much love this year between my friends getting married and caring for my son. I feel like my heart is so full of lovely memories of love! Sounds cheesy, I know. But it's true.
As for shopping, I didn't have very much free time to devote to shopping. So I made most of my purchases on line, or through fabulous deals on Groupon and Living Social and Rue La La, and and and...(I think you get the picture!) One of my favorite purchases was actually a small, handmade guitar that I bought for my son in Mexico. I bartered for that sucker and got it for a song. That guitar gets daily use, and in turn creates many smiles as I watch my little buddy strum and dance along to every song he hears on the tv.

Shiny Things
Shiny things catch my eye, shiny people have pieces of my heart and shiny moments are what make up my fondest memories. It is here in this humble little blog that I hope to share these things with you. Whether they be a funny life experience, something that made me smile, or a shiny bauble that I just had to purchase.
